Discrimination & Harassment

If you are facing discrimination or harassment at work based upon your race, sex, national origin, disability, age, religion, or are facing retaliation for prior EEO activity, we can assist you in ensuring your rights are protected. We represent employees in complaints before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Virginia Office of Civil Rights, D.C. Commission on Human Rights and in State and Federal courts regarding claims of discrimination. There are important deadlines associated with complaints of discrimination and you should contact an experienced discrimination law attorney as soon as possible to determine how to best proceed with your claim.

Wrongful Termination

Most private sector employees in D.C. and Virginia will be considered "at-will" employees, which means they can be fired for any reason, or no reason at all, so long as the reason for the termination does not violate State or Federal laws. In addition to termination from employment for discriminatory reasons, there are additional protections available to state and private sector workers, such as whistleblower reprisal. If you have been terminated from employment without just cause, contact The Law Firm of Matthew D. Estes to determine whether you have grounds for legal action against your employer.

Reasonable Accommodation for Disabilities

If you are an employee with a disability, your employer may be required to provide you with certain accommodations to enable you to perform the essential functions of your position. Reasonable accommodations include modifications to the working environment, or modifications to the way work is completed, which enable an employee with a disability to perform their job duties successfully despite limitations caused by a physical or mental disability. The process for requesting and obtaining an accommodation from your employer can be time consuming and confusing and it is helpful to have an advocate on your side. Contact the Law Firm of Matthew D. Estes to find out how we can help you get accommodations you need to do your job.
